What is Meat Standards Australia (MSA)?
Meat Standards Australia is a beef and sheepmeat eating quality guarantee allowing consumers to purchase red meat to the tenderness and quality they desire. The MSA beef program was developed in 1996 and the sheepmeat program in 2005.
Unlike other meat industry description systems, MSA accurately predicts eating quality for individual cuts and muscles.
Due to the complex series of factors that can influence eating quality attributes of a carcase, the MSA system had identified critical control points along the supply chain that require measurement and quantifying.
